Smart Eating Out
Eating out is always hard when you're trying trying to lose weight, but knowing how to do it smartly makes things a little easier. Ask for smaller portions, dressings on the side, and try to avoid going places where you know you're going to have problems.
Support
Surround yourself with support. Whether it's a friend, family, a counselor or just an online friend, make sure you have someone to turn to in times of frustration.
Know and Listen To Your Body
You know your body the best. Know how to listen its needs and its pains. For me, if I'm exhausted, I know its time for some extra protein and some sleep.
Know Your Weaknesses
Like everyone, including Biggest Loser Contestants, we all have our weakness. I know mine and try to avoid them, but like Bob says "You play, you pay." If you have to have it, know that you're going to have to pay for it.
Nobody's Perfect
You're not perfect, and I'm not perfect! Try not to beat yourself up too badly over bad days. Learn and move on to the next. We all can't be perfect 24-7. Temptations happen. Don't hate yourself for not being perfect every single day!
Food Journal
I started doing better when I started a food journal. I keep up with it daily (or at least I try my hardest to), and share it with my Jenny Craig counselor so we can look at points to fix. It really makes you accountable for what you are doing day to day
Rewards
I believe in rewarding yourself for a job well done, however just not rewarding yourself with food. When I hit one landmark I got a new I-Pod for the gym. The next, a new tattoo. And the ultimate goal reward, a tattoo I've wanted for 4 years.
Is It Worth It?
Only you can decide if that brownie you're craving is worth it. Is a brownie going to fill you up? Is it worth the calories? Are you going to be able to stop at just one brownie? Are there other alternatives that are less calories and will fill you up?
Your Best Investments
Invest in a good food scale, a good set of measuring cups, and good set of measuring spoons. They'll come in handy more than you'll ever know.
Don't Be Afraid Of Change
Don't be afraid to try new foods! If you keep eating the same thing day after day, you'll eventually get tired of what you're eating and start eating whatever is around. And we all know, that can have very bad consequences. :)
Brrrr! It's Cold In Here!
Drink cold water!!!! I believe that it helps you burn some calories because your body has to warm it up to actual body temperature. I don't believe it helps burn a ton of calories, but hey! Cold water is refreshing either way!
Pour Some Dressing On Me
Your typical salad dressing bottle cap is equal to one tablespoon. Measure it out for yourself, and you'll see what I mean! Not every bottle may be the same, but every bottle that I've purchased has had a cap that measures out to one tablespoon.
Variety Is The Spice Of Life
Vary the amount of calories, points, etc that you eat each day. I've found that it has boosted my metabolism and has kept my body out of plateau mode.
Stick A Fork In It!
If you ask for dressing, syrup, butter, etc. on the side in a separate container, just dip your fork in. You will be saving a bunch of calories, and you will get a taste of the dressing, syrup, etc. on each bite.
Some Like It Hot!
During the Biggest Loser, they said that eating chili peppers help you burn an additional 50 calories a day. Throw them in omelets, sandwiches, etc.
Don't Let The Scale Bring You Down
The scale may not say what you want it to, but you are still changing your life for the better (unless you're not sticking to your program) Everyone's bodies react to weight loss differently. Give your body time to adjust to your new lifestyle.
It's Not A Diet! It's A Lifestyle Change!
Diets don't work. I mean, come on! How many of you out there have tried diet after diet and failed? No matter what program you're on, you can't think of what you're doing as a diet. You have to think of it as a lifestyle change. Because that's what it is.
